Relevance
USER:

Can I ask, how specifically is the relevance score worked out? We are getting asked a lot of questions about this (what does 1 vs 5 mean, etc.) and want to be able to confidently explain it.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Unfortunately, due to it being proprietary information, I can't specifically detail the process by which we determine a place's Relevance score as it would be infringing on our intellectual property. However, I will try to provide more clarity about the metric to hopefully help you answer your clients' questions.

A relevance score is calculated by combining and assessing digital interactions with a specific place through check-ins, likes, ratings and reviews from multiple data sources. A place can be assigned a relevance score of 1 - 10, with 10 being the highest score a place can achieve.

You may have noticed that, in the Attractors section of some of your Insights Reports, some places are listed with a heart symbol next to their ranking - this heart symbol indicates a place that has a relevance score of 9 or above. A place with a relevance score of 9 or higher is in the top 10% of places in its category, across the country, making it an important asset to the immediate community, but also potentially a much wider audience.

Relevance
USER:

I have had some questions from the client and am hoping you can help me. Could you please describe how the "Important" attractors are defined - is it dwell time from phones or posting about these on social media? and then how do you determine the"Average Relevance Score"?

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

The Most Important Attractors are defined based on their Relevance score ranking, which is computed based on the quantity of engagement with each point of interest.

A high Relevance score indicates a high level of digital engagement for a place within its category (as determined by our proprietary classification system) and geography. This means that a place with a high relevance score may not be the busiest location in an area; however, the amount of digital interaction with it indicates how important and influential it is to the local community.

In case it's helpful to you, I thought it was worth mentioning that we have both an FAQ page and Technical Forum page on our website with answers to similar questions and more.

Custom locations
USER:

I'm doing some work for a regional council looking at visitors to a 55 hectare scenic reserve. It has an onsite visitor centre, cafe, BBQs, playground etc. Would your product allow for a large custom area like this? Does this count as one location?

I'm thinking I would need a pro account (probably just for a month, this isn't an ongoing project) with the add-on of the activity trends tool so I have data from the past year. Does that seem right? The reserve has between 300,000 and 400,000 annual visitors. Would that be enough to warrant meaningful data? It's a small budget project.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Thanks for your question. Yes we can certainly include a very large area, as you have described, as a single custom location. We have some instructions in our Resource Base on how to request a custom location, however, in this instance you can simply send us a polygon (ie shape file or similar) of the area that you require coverage for, and our team will set up the boundary for you.

Historic data
USER:

Thank you, our Leadership Team are interested in Neighbourlytics.

They had a specific enquiry – they are very interested in what our Council neighbourhoods/LGA, particularly arts sector, looked like pre-COVID compared to now.

Can we access previous data if we have an annual subscription? Or is this a piece of work we would need to commission you to do? Not even sure if your records go back that far? 2019.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

Thanks for getting back to us. Unfortunately our Australia-wide data records only go back as far as Jan 2023. Every paid account provides access to the historic data sets in our Discover tool, but unfortunately we're unable to show historical data pre-covid.

I'm sorry that’s not the answer you were hoping for, but please let me know if there is anything else I can help with.

Custom locations
USER:

I was under the impression that I had access to 50 reports. I was specifically looking to access data for Springly, Greenvale and Villton. Would the polygon option be the best way to capture Springly and its key suburbs together, and then a separate polygon for Greenvale? If so, I’d be happy to provide preferred boundaries for each. Could you also clarify how the credits work in relation to my access?

Additionally, I’d like to better understand the polygon option - if a more refined project-specific area is preferable, I’m happy to provide an outline.

NEIGHBOURLYTICS:

No worries, we know it's a little confusing! Yes you can save up to 50 reports from our database of public locations (essentially the locations that Neighbourlytics have pre-defined - there are 9,300 of them across Australia, and Springly, Greenvale and Villton are all available). Use the search bar on your account 'Front Desk' to search the location that you need, and you will be able to save it directly in to your account.

In addition to accessing these 'public' locations, you also have access to two custom locations - meaning you can define the specific shape of the location that you want reports for. It can be a circle/radius or you can send through an irregular shape for us to process for you. You don't have to submit your request for custom locations yet, so there's no rush. Essentially, whenever you decide that the public locations don't cover the specific area that you need, that's when you want to use the Custom locations.

The "How can I set up a specific location?" article, in our Help Centre, tries to set out a little more about custom vs public locations.
